Tube flies are effective for any type of fly fishing, and are especially effective for steelhead, salmon and trout streamer patterns . They are easy to learn to tie, but require a few extra fly tying tools and specialized fly tying materials. There are very reasonably priced adapters that will convert your standard fly tying vise into a tube vise, or you can buy a specialized vise that makes tying tube flies a pleasure. There are also some tube fly starter kits available that have everything you need to get started experimenting with tube fly tying without depleting the budget.
