HOW TO TIE THE ROYAL COACHMAN TRUDE FLY

Royal Coachman Trude Dry Fly

The Royal Coachman Trude, or Royal Trude, is an excellent prospecting and pocket water fly. As an attractor or as a caddis, stonefly or terrestrial imitation, it has worked wonders over hard-fished waters for years. The Trude, or down hair-wing, style has been around since the early 1900's and was supposedly first tied on and named for the Trude Ranch near Big Springs above the Henry's Fork of the Snake River. Tying the Royal Coachman into a trude-style fly was just the natural thing to do!
