HOW TO TIE THE PLATTE RIVER SPECIAL STREAMER

Platte River Special Streamer

The Platte River Special was created years ago on its namesake river in Wyoming, and has become known for fooling large Rainbow and Brown trout all over the world. There are many versions of the Platte River special and the true original version seems lost in time. This is the one we tie - it has a throat of red Krystal Flash which seems to add a little more fishiness!

HOOK SIZES: 2, 4, 6, 8

HOOK OPTIONS: Tiemco 300, Tiemco 765SP

THREAD: Red 6/0 or 3/0

BODY: Medium flat or oval gold tinsel (An alternative would be brown dubbing tied very slender with tinsel ribbing)

WING: Two brown saddle hackles inside with two yellow saddle hackle on the outside. Tie them cocked up at about 20-25 degrees

HACKLE: Brown and yellow hackle tied mixed together and tied back as a collar

THROAT: Bright Red Krystal Flash

HEAD CEMENT: Water based head cement
