HOW TO TIE THE MADAME X DRY FLY

Doug Swisher's Madame X Dry Fly

This low-riding hopper/stone fly/ attractor pattern was originated on the Bitterroot River in Montana by Doug Swisher, and has become popular world-wide. Once you get the hang of tying the folded-back bullet head you can tie this fly in a lot of different color combinations.

HOOK SIZES: 6, 8, 10

HOOK OPTIONS: Daiichi 1270 , Tiemco 200R

THREAD: Yellow 3/0

WING/BULLET HEAD: Deer Hair or Elk hair tied with tips pointing forward and then pulled back to form the half-bullet head and wing.

TAIL: Deer or Elk hair

BODY: Yellow floss

LEGS: White rubber legs tied in behind the head in a X-pattern

HEAD CEMENT: Dave's Flexament brushed over the head
