HOW TO TIE THE MADAME X DRY FLY
Doug Swisher's Madame X Dry Fly
This low-riding hopper/stone fly/ attractor pattern was originated on the Bitterroot River in Montana by Doug Swisher, and has become popular world-wide. Once you get the hang of tying the folded-back bullet head you can tie this fly in a lot of different color combinations.
HOOK SIZES: 6, 8, 10
HOOK OPTIONS: Daiichi 1270 , Tiemco 200R
THREAD: Yellow 3/0
WING/BULLET HEAD: Deer Hair or Elk hair tied with tips pointing forward and then pulled back to form the half-bullet head and wing.
TAIL: Deer or Elk hair
BODY: Yellow floss
LEGS: White rubber legs tied in behind the head in a X-pattern
HEAD CEMENT: Dave's Flexament brushed over the head
