HOW TO TIE THE FREIGHT TRAIN STEELHEAD FLY

The Freight Train
is a top producing steelhead fly pattern on Oregon's Deschutes River and anywhere else you find steelhead. The bright orange and red butt and purple tail and hackle are a blend of many proven steelhead colors, and the dark body with white wing is a proven steelhead combination. A Randall Kaufmann pattern. Apparently Randall hadn't named this fly yet and was distracted watching a freight train rolling down beside the Deschutes River when a steelhead interrupted his sight-seeing. There are many variations of the Freight Train, one of the best of which is the Crystal Freight Train, with a wing of Pearl Flashabou Accent.
