BABINE SPECIAL
HOW TO TIE THE BABINE SPECIAL STEELHEAD FLY

The Babine Special is a juicy steelhead, salmon and large trout fly pattern that is basically two eggs and hackle. The original version, whatever that was, was developed on the Babine River in British Columbia, but has found a home in almost every steelheaders, salmon hunters, and Alaska fly fishers fly box. A good pattern to drift deep on a cold day and in murky water conditions, especially when mixed species are in the river at the same time: One species spawning and the other feeding on drifting eggs! The Babine Special may also be a pretty fair shrimp imitation.
