GRANDE RONDE, WALLOWA, IMNAHA RIVERS: Steelhead season opened September 1.
Trout season is closed and will re-open on May 26, 2012.
UPDATE: 01/26/12 The river flows are edging upward with this warm rainy storm system we're experiencing, but as soon as they start back down the fishing should be ice-free and excellent!
The Grande Ronde River is on its way back down to fishable levels and the steelhead fishing should be excellent for the foreseeable future. The ice is gone, the water is a bit off color and the recent storm surge will put the fish in a mood to move and to bite. Swinging or high-stick nymphing: Your choice!
The Wallowa River should run free of ice for several days after this warm storm surge. Steelhead will be moving farther up into the system and as long as the nights stay reasonably warm fishing should be great.

HOME WATERS: THE WALLOWA RIVER: The Wallowa River’s most accessible fly fishing stretch borders Highway 82 for about 9 miles above Minam. There are quite a few pull-outs along the highway, and it’s amazing how alone you can feel fly casting to trout on the river with tourists and logging trucks zipping by just a few yards away. It’s a beautiful mountain canyon stretch of trout fly fishing water....Read more about fly fishing Northeast Oregon's Wallowa River!
