Orvis Fly Fishing BookFLY FISHING BOOKS AND DVDS There are so many excellent books and videos for the flyfishing angler today that it is hard to know where to start. Here at The FlyFishing Place we have put together a collection of our favorite books and DVDs about flyfishing techniques, flytying, river and regional flyfishing guides and maps, flyfishing entomology, flyfishing literature and humor and more.
ALEC JACKSON SPEY SALMON or STEELHEAD FLY HOOK: These beautiful Alec Jackson Spey Hooks are a pleasure to tie on and fish with. Whether for exhibition grade flies or for everyday working flies, you'll know you are working with the best. Preferred by fly tiers who tie collectible full dressed Atlantic salmon flies, this is also the hook of choice for many steelheaders in the Pacific Northwest and the Great Lakes Steelhead Alley.

Fly tying styles for steelhead patterns have evolved over the last few decades in two interesting directions: The first towards sparser, more stream-lined versions of the bulkier traditional wet steelhead flies of the past, and the second towards larger, high profile steelhead flies.

ADVANTAGES OF TUBE FLIES: Tube flies usually slide up the leader and away from sharp teeth when playing trout or steelhead. You can also slide the tube fly away from the hook when you are having difficulty releasing a fish: A real advantage!

Fly fishing reelCHOOSING FLY FISHING REELS : Fly fishing reel quality is important for functionality, but don’t automatically assume that high quality equates with high prices. There are many good flyfishing reels of excellent quality available today in the $50 to $80 price range that are very well made.

TYING TUBE FLIES: Tube flies are effective for any type of flyfishing. They are easy to tie, but require a few extra flytying tools and specialized flytying materials. There are very reasonably priced adapters that will convert your standard flytying vise into a tube vise. VISIT OUR TUBE FLY TYING MATERIAL AND TOOL STORE

CUL DE CANARD FLY TYING FEATHERS grow around the preen gland of ducks and geese ,which secretes the oil ducks and geese use to preen and waterproof their feathers. The oil and the water-resistant properties of CDC feathers make them great for emergers, nymphs and dry flies that ride naturally in the surface film. Unfortunately, once CDC is dyed the oil loses all of its desirable qualities. That's why our  premium CDC is re-treated with preen oil after dying! The Fly Fishing Place offers two types of CDC: Premium CDC Oiler Puffs and economical CDC feathers.

Wallowa River FlyfishingHOME WATERS: THE WALLOWA RIVER: The Wallowa River’s most accessible flyfishing stretch borders Highway 82 for about 9 miles above Minam. There are quite a few pull-outs along the highway, and it’s amazing how alone you can feel flycasting to trout on the river with tourists and logging trucks zipping by just a few yards away. It’s a beautiful mountain canyon stretch of trout fly fishing water....Read more about flyfishing Northeast Oregon's Wallowa River!
